Terms of Service
Last updated 30 September 2026
LorChess is a free chess site run by Lorand, an independent developer. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use LorChess.
Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
Your account
You are responsible for your account and everything done with it. Choose a strong password and keep it to yourself. We don't have your email address, so we can't send you a reset link. If you lose your password, contact us, but we may not be able to confirm that the account is yours.
Fair play
- Don't use chess engines, other software or another person's help in games or puzzles.
- Don't manipulate ratings, for example by losing on purpose, arranging results or playing against your own second account.
- Don't exploit bugs. If you find one, please tell us.
Behaviour
In chat and in usernames, don't harass, threaten or insult anyone. Don't post hate speech, sexual content or spam, and don't share anyone's personal information.
Images you upload
Only upload images that you have the right to use and that are legal. They are shown only to you, but they are stored on our server.
Membership
Membership is currently available only through promo codes. Each code works once and has no cash value. The features included in membership may change.
What we may do
If you break these terms, we may remove your messages, annul games, reset your rating, or suspend or close your account. We may do this without warning.
No guarantees
LorChess is a free hobby project and is provided as it is. It may go down, change, lose data or shut down, and we make no promises that it won't. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that results from using it.
Other people's work
The puzzles come from the Lichess puzzle database (CC0). Game review runs Stockfish 19 (stockfish.js, unmodified) in your browser. It is free software under the GNU GPL version 3: see its licence and source code. It is based on Stockfish.
The chess pieces are "JohnPablok's improved Cburnett chess set" by JohnPablok, based on the pieces by Colin M. L. Burnett, from OpenGameArt, licensed CC BY-SA 3.0.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top changes. If you keep using LorChess after a change, you accept the new terms.
